Obituary for Emily Wade

Emily Wade
Emily Lanora McAllister was born September 16, 1934 in Gary, Indiana. She was the only child of Willis McAllister and Lillian Temple McAllister. She passed away on January 24, 2018.
Emily taught home economics once she graduated from college. However, her passion was helping others. She became involved with local politics and immediately saw others who were not as fortunate as she, so her life was dedicated to helping others any way she could. Emily was humble but deliberate, and was very involved in all aspects of the local political scene, often spending long nights out polling and registering others to vote, or protesting to save a local library in Tampa where she once lived. She, once took one of her sons to Chicago in 1971 to participate in a protest march against the Vietnam war, and she was a tireless worker behind the scenes working and coordinating with others to canvass neighborhoods regarding contemporary issues. She was elected County Recorder for Monroe County(Indiana) in 1976.
Emily was married, and divorced twice. Her first marriage, lasting 6 years, was to J. Eugene Fox which produced two sons, David Eugene Fox (deceased) and Donald Richard Fox. Her second marriage, which lasted 28 years, was to David L. Wade and they had one son, Willis William Wade. Emily is survived by her ex-husband David L. Wade of Bloomington, her two sons Donald Richard Fox (Nancy Fox) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Willis William Wade (Virginia Baude) of Bloomington, Indiana, and other daughter-in-law Esther Stafford of Kansas. She is also survived by her grandson David Fox, and Granddaughter Eleanor Baude-Phillips, as well as Laura Lou Willis a cousin’s widow. She is preceeded in death by her loving Parents, her Step-Mother Helen, her beloved son David Eugene Fox, her Ex-Husband J. Eugene Fox, and her cousin Delbert Willis.
During her long and eventful life, she was always looking out for others sometimes to the chagrin of her own family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church but, had not gone for a while, and also attended the Unitarian Universalist Church more recently until her health allowed her to no longer attend. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 221 E. 6th Street, Bloomington, Indiana, on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. She will be reunited with her son David Eugene Fox after these services in a private burial service with her family. In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the Bloomington Animal Shelter in memory of Emily L. Wade.
