Obituary for Robert William Harris

Robert William Harris
Robert William Harris, age 90, Bloomington, passed away at 7:20 pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was a private, deeply spiritual man who loved fishing, auto racing, IU Basketball and Football, and his family. He retired from RCA in 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II aboard the Bainbridge, Maryland and U.S.S. Amphion. We will miss how Dad constantly surprised us with his humor and quiet wisdom.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Emma May (Hendricks) Harris, Brothers Dewey Harris, Phillip Harris and Herbert Harris, sister Margaret Harris and an infant son, Stephen Robert Harris.
He is survived by his children, Rhonda Lynn Slota of Vallejo, California, Lee Ann Jackson (James Jackson) of Solsberry, IN and Jade Ray Harris (Tiny Harris) of Bloomington, Indiana, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a sister Anna Jane (Harris) Hennesy, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday February 23, 2018 from 6-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Services will be 10:00 Saturday February 24, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Godsey officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe County Veteran's Honor Guard will have Military Rites.
The family wishes to thank the staff of McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Area 10 Agency on Aging and the Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Great Lakes Caring Hospice Foundation, 900 Cooper St., Jackson, MI 49202 or area 10 Agency on Aging, 631 W. Edgewood Dr., Ellettsville, IN 47429.
