Susie Gaston  Thompson
Susie Gaston Thompson, 78, of Bloomington, passed away August 29th 2018 at The IU Health Hospice House following a brief illness. Susie was born May 22, 1940 in Bloomington to Virginia Dare Gaston and George Lamar Gaston. She was a 1958 graduate of University High school, where she was president of GAA and homecoming queen. Following graduation she attended Indianapolis Business College. Susie met her lifelong partner, Terry L. Thompson, in 3rd grade at Poplar Grove School, they dated throughout high school and married February 1, 1964. Terry preceded her in death in 2016.
Susie is survived by her daughters, Dr. Sarah Tieman-Sievers (Bob Sievers) of Mooresville and Amy Thompson (Dionicio Nunez) of Bloomington; grandchildren Molly Tieman, Virginia Grace Sievers, William Nunez and Ian Nunez. Surviving brothers include Charlie Gaston of New Harmony IN and Lamar Gaston of Louisville, Ky. She was preceded in death by her brother Albert Gaston.
Susie worked with her father at the family business Gaston Wood Finishes and took over the business upon his death. Later in life she worked as an office manager at Building Associates Inc. and as a secretary at BHS North. She is remembered by her co-workers and friends for her humor and smile.
Susie fostered and took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was known for her crafting, quilting and needlework, additionally she was a loyal fan of the BHSN Cougars, Colts, Pacers and Purdue Boilermakers. She loved her equine and canine family members throughout her life and the cows she co-owned at the time of her death. She loved the USA, displaying the American flag at her home regularly and voting in all elections, even when it became a challenge for her physically.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana.
Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5 at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Bloomington following a brief graveside service.
