Obituary for Nedra Fleetwood-Martin

Nedra D. Fleetwood-Martin, 61, of Bloomington, passed away on Tuesday October 9, 2018 at the IU Health Hospice House with her family by her side.
Nedra was born January 4, 1957 in Bartholomew County, Indiana and was the daughter of Jack and Barbara Joan (Thacker) Fleetwood. Nedra was a Cashier and Assistant Manager with Circle K and had been a Foster Parent to 77 children.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Martin of Bloomington, 3 sons; Terry (Amanda) England of Newark, IN, James (Angie) England of Bloomington and Danny Martin of Bloomington. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister, Jackie (Danny) Buhr of Washington, IN, sister-in-law Rebecca Martin of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews.
Nedra was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Steve Fleetwood and Jim Fleetwood, sister, Toni Fleetwood, grandparents, Jim Fleetwood, Mary Alice Fleetwood, Edith and Paul Strain and Lorenzo Thacker.
Nedra's family will receive friends on Friday October 12, 2018 from 4-7 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
There will be no services.

Nedra was one of my students at the Monroe County Alternative High School way back when. She was always one of the positive ones, and we got along well. When I last saw her many years ago at the car dealership where she was working she told me that she “wouldn’t have made it” if it wasn’t for me. While her compliment warmed my heart, I can’t help but believe that Nedra would have made it no matter what. She was strong, definitely had a mind of her own and didn’t put up with any nonsense. She was no doubt a genuinely loving and excellent parent and foster parent, and no matter how much I may have helped her, she surely helped her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and foster children far more. My condolences to her husband, her entire family and all 77 of her foster children.

So sorry for your loss and sad to hear. I remember Nedra (and Phil) from Sportsplex when they graciously saw that the children they were foster parents to got to play in sports. They cared for so many children that needed their love and one of those children was very dear to our family.
