Obituary for Marilyn Higman Vehslage

Marilyn Higman Vehslage, 82, of Bloomington passed away Thursday evening June 5, 2014 at her home. Born, August 21, 1931 in Romney, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late I. Newton and Ruth (Kirkpatrick) Higman. Marilyn graduated from Romney High School and attended Indiana University. She worked for Dr. Larry Ratts for many years as office manager. Most recently employed by South Central Community Action Program until the time of her death where she leaves behind many treasured friends, associates and clients. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Doty (Norman) of Bloomfield, Ruth Ann Coia of Bloomington and one son, Gregory Coia (Jurene) of Martinsville, three grandchildren, Kimberly Brown of Springville, Tobey Moore of Bedford and Gregg Coia II of Martinsville, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Vehslage, one daughter, Cindy L. Coia, one infant great-granddaughter, Amber Moore, one sister, Lily M. DeVault and two brothers, Robert F. Higman and Newton “Kirk” Higman. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the IU Health Hospice staff for their loving care of mom in her final weeks. We will also be eternally grateful to her work family at SCCAP for their constant calls, visits and extension of love to mom during her illness. She truly thought of you as family and loved you dearly. Visitation will be 2-6 Sunday, June 8, 2014 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington. Funeral services will be 11:00am at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Godsey officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
