Blanche LaVon Ison
Blanche LaVon Ison, 89, died March 2 in Bloomington.

LaVon was born in Tooele, Utah, on July 26, 1926 to George Hopwood and Myrtle Blanche (Miles) Bleazard, the eighth of ten children.

She moved to Bloomington after marrying Robert W. Ison, a native of Hendricksville, on November 22, 1945. In Indiana, LaVon worked at J.C. Penney, Hoosier Electric (Kirby Risk), and Fairfield Inn, where she was the breakfast ambassador for more than 15 years.

LaVon volunteered for nearly 30 years as a receptionist at Bloomington Hospital.

LaVon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She helped organize the first meetings of the church in Bloomington. As a three-time president of the church’s women’s organization, the Relief Society, she helped build the church’s first local meetinghouse on Second Street. She served an 18-month mission in the church’s temple in Chicago.

LaVon continued serving others until the end of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who died in 1982, her parents, her siblings, and her daughter, Marilyn Cazee, and husband, Robert (Bob).

LaVon is survived by three children, Twyla Edwards and her husband George, of Bloomington; Beverly Jackson and her husband, Joe, of Muncie; and Phillip Ison and his wife, Geneil, of Bloomington; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4235 W 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47404. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 7 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47401.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in LaVon’s name to the IU Health Hospice House.
