Obituary for Janice Marie Gootee-Pickens

Janice Marie Gootee-Pickens
Janice Marie Gootee-Pickens, 63 passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Born August 30,1952 in Indianapolis, she was the youngest daughter of James Leo Gootee and Margaret Mary Gootee.
Janice was raised in Indianapolis, moved to Bloomington in 1986 and initially worked as a dental hygienist. After earning her real estate license Janice began her long and successful Real Estate career in Monroe and surrounding counties retiring in 2007. Janice interviewed and was hired for her real estate position by her then future husband, Larry Pickens who survives her. They were married in December of 1997. She is also survived by two sisters, Tina Hickman of Indianapolis and Paula Beardsworth of Sierra Vista, Arizona, her granddaughter, Abby Pickens and Abby’s parents Chad and Amy Pickens of Bloomington and many nephews and nieces.
Janice always made a lasting impression on the people she met. Clients became friends, friends became clients. Everyone she knew deemed her as a smart person that really cared about them, would listen to them. Her positive and personable attitude placed people at ease – and she always remembered their names. Simply put, Janice was very special. She will be tremendously missed by all.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and eldest sister, Treva Obrien of Poway, California.
