Obituary for
Bob L. Lanning
Bobby L. Lanning, 73, of Bloomington passed away on Monday November 21, 2016 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Bob was born May 28, 1943 in Indianapolis and was the son of the late Glenn and Irene (Cox) Lanning.
Bob was a Veteran of the Air Force and Navy and had retired from the Air Force. He also worked as a Police Officer in Outer Banks, NC and retired a second time from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked in I.T. He was a member of American Legion Post #18, VFW Post #604 where he was Past Commander, and a member of the Monroe County Veteran Honor Guard. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, helped set up the sound system and loved preparing for special events. He loved playing the guitar, cooking, hunting and fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife Linda (Swim) Lanning of Bloomington, 3 daughters; Miche Lanning of Outer Banks, NC, Lindie Lanning of Mt. Airy, NC, and Lauri Rhea of Bedford. Also surviving are his sister, Nancy Fults of Indianapolis, brother Wallace Lanning of Greenwood, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Bob Lanning Jr., and brothers Don Lanning and Jack Lavely.
Services for Bob will be 11:00 am Friday November 25, 2016 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 3501 N. Prow Road Bloomington. Pastor Brian Stewart will officiate the service. The Monroe County Veteran’s Honor Guard will have Military Rites following the service.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time at the church.
Private Burial for Bob will be Monday November 28, 2016 at the Indiana Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or V.F.W. Post 604.
