James William "Jim" Durnal
James William “Jim” Durnal, 81, of Bloomington died Monday morning December 5, 2016 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born, December 10, 1934 in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Lee and Lucille (Johnson) Durnal.
Jim worked as a Switchman for Monon Railroad, L & N Railroad and retired from CSX Railroad.
He was a member of the Genesis Church where he served as a Deacon and Lead Usher, and he was loved in the community.
Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed traveling, automobiles, riding his Harley Davidson and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shelby (Dillman) Durnal of Bloomington, sister-in-law, Phyllis Durnal, brothers-in-law, James Dillman and Merle Dillman (Janet). He is also survived by daughters, Cyndi Garrett (Gary) and Sarita Todd, one granddaughter, Lacie Axsom (Brandon), three grandsons, Shawn West (Stausha), Jonathan Garrett and Thomas Garrett, three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia David, Lois Polley and Janice Durnal, one brother, Bob Durnal.
Visitation will be 11am-1pm Friday, December 9, 2016 at Genesis Church, 801 E. State Road 45/46 in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday at Genesis Church with Pastor’s David and Timothy Woodcock, George and Dotty Ellingwood and Josh Counts officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
