Obituary for Lloyd George Mosier

Lloyd George  Mosier
Lloyd George Mosier, 90,--devoted husband, father and pioneering rocket scientist--of Bloomington passed away on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Lloyd was born November 3, 1926 in Kirksville, Indiana and was the son of the late Denver and Edith (Messinger) Mosier.
Lloyd was a pioneering rocket scientist working on the ground breaking NASA space flight programs including Atlas, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space missions. He was responsible for the development of the inertial guidance system that made it possible to control flight of rocket ships in space, moon landings and return the rocket ships and astronauts to earth. He was a World War II Veteran of the Navy and a member of Landmark Church. Lloyd was a graduate of Bloomington High School, and earned his Bachelor’s degree and his Masters in Physics from Indiana University and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Survivors include his daughter, Ginger Lynn Mosier (and her husband Paul Kiel) of New Hope, Pennsylvania; 3 grandchildren--John Mosier, Natasha Kiel and Sherri Mosier; 4 great grandchildren--Jasmine Mosier, Jax Mosier, Keagan Hier and Parker Hier. Also surviving are his daughter-in-law Sandy Mosier, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty & Vincent Sansone, sister-in-law Katherine Terrell, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert & Diane McGlocklin.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and love of his life of 69 years Margaret Louise Mosier in July of 2016, his son Lloyd “Gary” Mosier and his half sister Eleanor.
Visitation for Lloyd will be 4-8 pm Thursday January 19, 2017 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington and Friday from 12:00 pm until service time.
Services will be 1:00 pm Friday January 20, 2017 at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rob Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
