Obituary for Dr. Robert (Bob) Hall

Dr. Robert (Bob)  Hall

Bob rests in peace after over 25 years with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Warren, Ohio and grew up in Gustavus and Cortland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas A. Hall (1955), his mother Helen Logan Hall (2009) and a sister Martha Louise (1939).

Survivors include his sister JoAnn Grube Columbia, MD, his sons Tom (Laura) Hall of Heltonville, Steve Hall of Tucson, AZ and Jim Hall of NYC. Cousins Bette Elser of Keyser, WV, Wayne Hall Fort Mill, SC and Gene Hall Indiana, PA. Granddaughter Elaina Hall of Tucson, AZ.

Bob worked at the following Universities and Companies: IUPUI- Professor Geology, (1974-2005),
Department Chair (1993-1997), Director of Center on Earth and Environmental Science (1996-1999), and
at the Indiana University Geological Field Station (1974-80, 1982-83)
McAlester Fuel- Billings, MT, Gulf Oil- Oklahoma City, OK, Texaco International, Quito, Ecuador, 1966-1969. Consulted in Saudi Arabia.

Bob received degrees from; BS - Purdue University, MS - University of Colorado, PHD - Indiana University

He was extremely hardworking, had high standards, and was dedicated to his profession. Bob led field trips attended by people from around the world, and produced 25 publications. He also taught a Geology of Indiana video series. Dr. Hall was dedicated to his students and their learning. He lived life for today and was proud of those he helped along the way.
Bob was independent and unconventional. Among other things he worked in the Amazon jungle, drove his jeeps up into the mountains, and camped on a glacier.
His passions: Geology, women, cats, photography, mountains, glaciers, teaching, research
He liked to play: bridge, pool, basketball, softball, volleyball
Bob liked: ordinary people, underdogs, joking, traveling, small towns, fall foliage, presenting slide shows, sliding down snowfields, mountain climbing, moons, cows, Colts football, IU basketball, Cleveland Indians, crossword puzzles, jeeps, hiking, studying the Civil War, writing poems and limericks, model A’s, reading, ice cream, pie, cloud-formations, Indiana State Parks, westerns, Southern-Indiana, Montana, Wyoming.
He will be sadly missed.
No immediate service will be held.
