Phillip "Bud"  Edgar Bales
Phillip “Bud” Edgar Bales age 85 died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home in Bloomington, Indiana. He was born in Bloomington on March 18, 1931 to the late Ada Gretchen (Livingston) and Harvey Edgar Bales. Bud graduated from Bloomington High School in 1949 and attend Indiana University. He married Glenna Sue (Sullivan) Bales, his high school sweetheart, on June 29, 1952. Bud was a retired insurance agent.
Survivors include his wife; son Kim (Dee) Bales of Bloomington, and daughter Holly (Kareston) Bales-Hall of Bloomington; a sister Margaret (Larry) Besser of Muncie and a brother-in-law Noah Edington of Bloomington; 4 grandchildren Krista (Rob) France, Erica (Chad) Musselwhite, Chad (Jenna) Bales, and Courtlyn Bales-Hall; 6 great-grandchildren Fiona France, Dean France, Alice Musselwhite, Jack Musselwhite, Owen Bales and Oliver Bales; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two of his sisters and his son, Kurt Bales.
Bud was a member of First United Methodist Church and had served his country in the National Guard during the Korean War. He was a state wrestling champion, an AAU wrestling champion and is in the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. Bud was an active member of Boy Scouts as a youth and adult volunteer. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He fiercely loved his family. He also loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time with friends. He was an artist, a history buff, an avid reader, and loved to travel. Bud was a great storyteller with a twinkle in his eye and grin.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or to Hoosier Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Visitation for Bud will be Thursday March 9, 2017 from 4-8 pm and Friday March 10, 2017 from 10:00 am until service time at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday with Pastor Mark Fenstermacher officating. Burial will follow at RoseHill Cemetery where the Veteran's Honor Guard will have military rites.
