Obituary for Thomas Merrill

Thomas F. Merrill, age 73, passed peacefully from this life on Friday morning March 17th. In his final hours, which were spent at his home, he was cared for and comforted by his faithful wife of twenty-six years, Linda. She will dearly miss her best friend, their long conversations, and the many special times of their lives together.
Tom was born January 30, 1944, in Indianapolis. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School and then from Indiana University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
After graduating from I.U., Tom was a practicing CPA in the accounting firm of Carter Curlin & Merrill in Indianapolis, for seventeen years, before relocating to California. After Tom and Linda moved to Sausalito, California in 1983, Tom continued to practice accounting for another twenty-one years. He and Linda enjoyed the Bay Area and cultivated and maintained many close friendships which have endured the passage of time. In 2004, they returned to Indiana and have resided in Bloomington since, with their constant canine and feline companions.
Tom was a kind, gentle, and friendly soul who thoroughly loved meeting new friends and enjoying new experiences. He valued his relationship with Jesus Christ and the peace that relationship brought to him. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth Merrill. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas, Jr. (and Carla) of Zionsville and Tim (and Keith Anderson) of Eatonton, Georgia as well as his grandson Noah Merrill, and three step grandchildren Sarah, Rachel, and Kaleb Trumpy.
He is also survived by his sisters, Joan (and John) Schnurlein of Valparaiso, and their children Ruth and David, and Judy Williams of Noblesville, and her children, Doug and Lisa. He will also be mourned by his sisters-in-law Kathleen Bowers of Indianapolis and Bonnie (and Ken) Todd of Bloomington and their daughter, Erin of Nashville, Tennessee.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the coming weeks. The family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
