Obituary for Phyllis L. Denson

Phyllis Leon Denson, born in Bloomington, Indiana on July 7th, 1929 died April 18th, 2017 at the age of 87 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington, following 10 years of kidney disease. She was the daughter of Dewey and Augusta (Branaman) Nikirk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley B. Denson, in 1995, and older brother, Donald Nikirk, in 1997. Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Denise L. Denson, Gary L. and Terri L. Denson, and Karen R. and Tony L. Walker. Other survivors include, two grandchildren, Daniel T. Denson and Haley L. Denson, and one great grandchild, Amarayah McCoy; all residing in Bloomington, Indiana. Also surviving are her sister, Anna Mae Mood of South Carolina and two nieces, Susan Wilkerson of Georgia, and Betty Gargis of South Carolina.
Phyllis graduated from Bloomington High School in 1947 and was a member of the McDoel Baptist Church, the Alpha Delta Sorority of Omega Phi Tau, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Cascades Ladies Golf Club, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Phyllis was active in the Senior Olympics. Phyllis was a homemaker, but also worked outside the home throughout her life. She worked at RCA, Monroe County School Corporation, K-Mart East, and Modern Cleaners.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana.
The funeral service will be held at The Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am on Friday April 21, 2017, with burial to follow at Valhalla Cemetery.
