Obituary for
Evert Leon Marrs
Evert Leon Marrs, 92, of Bloomington entered the gates of Heaven Thursday evening June 1, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born, July 29, 1924 in Bloomington, he was the son of Everett Franklin and Grace Delista (Baxter) Marrs.
Leon was drafted into the U.S. Army March 9, 1943 at the age of 18.
He gave his life to the Lord June 29, 1960 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member.
Leon was a Tool Grinder at Westinghouse for 29 years, there he was the former President of the IBEW Local 2031. He was the owner/proprietor of Marrs Grocery and served as a Mail Carrier for the U.S. Post Office.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was proud that he was born and passed away at his family homestead on Moores Creek Rd. There he built his family a home with his hands and raised his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Jean Chandler (Scott) of Ellettsville, and Betty K. Adams (Don), two sons, Paul Franklin Marrs (Christine), and David Leon Marrs (Donna) all of Bloomington, two sisters, Doris Mitchner, and Erma Shiflett, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Leon was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean (Albertson) Marrs (1993), his second wife, Anna Mae (Fielder) Marrs (2016), and brothers and sisters, Orval, Edith, Edna, Ralph, Alice, and Bill.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Sunday, June 4, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 3900 S. Snoddy Rd. Bloomington, IN 47401, and from 1-2pm Monday at the church.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday at the church with Pastor Richard Borden officiating. Burial will follow at Knightridge Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Doctors, Porvasnik, Dukes, Fix, and Kawanishi, Nurse Practitioner, Kathy George, and IU Health Hopice for their care and professionlism.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
