Obituary for Betty Sue Sawyer

Betty Sue Sawyer,81, of Franklin and formerly of Bloomington passed away on Thursday July 27, 2017 at Homeview Healthcare and Rehab in Franklin. She had been ill with Parkinson’s Disease and was in a Nursing Care Facility. Betty was born August 8, 1935 in Monroe County and was the daughter of the late Claude Earl and Loraine (Alexander) Waterford.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She grew up on a small farm in Harrodsburg where she worked hard as a young girl in a family of l0 children. She worked for 27 years at General Electric and retired from there. Betty was a wonderful cook, she loved to crochet, garden and take care of her home.
She also loved music and liked to play the guitar and sing. In her last days she would love it when her grandson and son-in-law would bring their guitars to the nursing home and she would sing along.
Often the nursing home staff would comment on what a great sense of humor Betty had and they loved her. Betty also loved the Lord and she attended church in Bloomington and would often go to service at the Nursing Home. She loved it when we prayed with her.
Survivors include her daughter Debera (Hamm) Bragg (Larry) of North Carolina, son Kenneth P. Hamm (Denise) of Seattle, Washington, 2 step daughters, Ronda Oakes (Billy) and Stacy Shuler (Shannon) both of Georgia, and step son Charles Sawyer (Rhonda) of Shelbyville. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, brother Jerry Alexander Waterford (Janet) of Bedford, 4 sisters, Claudia Green, Ruth Floyd and Shirley Stevens (Manford) all of Bloomington and Doris Wilson of Spencer.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Sawyer (September 2015), brothers, Donald Waterford, Joe Waterford, and Jack Waterford and sister Florence Jacobs.
Services for Betty will be 1:00 pm Saturday July 29, 2017 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Burial will follow at Cloverhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday July 29th from 11:00 am until service time at The Funeral Chapel.
