Patricia Joanne “Pat” Haley, 89, of Bloomington passed away on Tuesday December 26, 2017 at her residence. Pat was born April 21, 1928 in Monroe County and was the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Taylor) Mitchell.
Pat married Boyd Haley on July 3, 1947. After marriage she worked with Boyd in his business and started a family. She owned The Flower Bowl in the 1960’s and worked as a florist. In the early seventies she was appointed co-head of Voter Registration for Monroe County along with Pat Williams. After Boyd’s death she entered the political arena. She served multiple terms as County Clerk and Recorder. She took great pride in being a Civil Servant. She particularly enjoyed performing weddings as County Clerk.
She was a past member of both Indiana Clerks and Recorders Associations. She served decades as a member and officer on the Monroe County Fairboard (she considered “fair week” a vacation).
In 2012 she was inducted into the Indiana Association of Fairs, Festivals and Events “Hall of Fame” for her service. She was a 60 + year member of the Walk-a-Lot Home Extension Club. Also in 2012, The Pat Haley Conference Room was dedicated in the Monroe County Courthouse by her friend and colleague Jim Fielder. We were all proud of this honor.
She was a long time member of The Independent Order of Forrester’s, Eastern Star #223, Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, Local, State and National Republican Party. She had served on boards of Bloomington Hospital Foundation, Bloomington Convalescent Center and Monroe County History Museum. She was a 45 + year member of the Bloomington Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Cheri (Bill) Bowen, son Brett (Barbara) Haley, son-in-law Greg George and daughter-in-law Beverly Haley all of Bloomington, 7 grandchildren; Blair Haley, Travis (Elizabeth) Bowen, Brent (Lydia) Haley, Vanessa (Matt) Davis, Cadence Hill, Elizabeth George, and Boyd Haley, 8 great grandchildren; Dora Langley, Zoey Castillo, Mason Haley, Claire Hill, Faye Hill, Madeline Davis, Audrey Davis and Charlotte Bowen. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Beverly Wesemann, and her dedicated caregivers, Rebecca, Eileen, Sarah, Mary and Becky.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband Boyd Haley (1977), son, Bruce Haley (2015), daughter Candi Haley (2017), grandson, Devin Bowen, brother C.D. Mitchell, and sister-in-laws Beatrice Finley and Betty Burks.
Services for Pat will be 2 pm Wednesday January 3, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Pastor Les Rovenstine will officiate the service and burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery next to her husband Boyd.
Visitation will be on Tuesday January 2, 2018 from 2-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel and again on Wednesday from 12 pm until service time.
