Obituary for Helen L. Metcalfe (Smith)

Helen L. Metcalfe (Smith)
Helen L Metcalfe, 93, of Bloomington passed away on Sunday, at Monroe Hospital.
Helen was born in Bloomington, on Sunday, September 7th, to Ralph W. Smith and Alma F. (Byers) Smith. She was the second of eight children. Growing up on a farm during the depression, she became a very hard worker helping with inside and outside chores. Helen attended Bloomington High School, later graduating from Stinesville High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Orville C. Metcalfe after he returned from the European theatre of WWII. They were soon married on New Year's Eve, 1946. They were very active church members, sharing their love of music and singing Gospel Hymns with family and friends. Helen carried the love of music and crafts throughout her life, even while living at Hearthstone Assisted Living. She loved helping others whenever she could, including caring for the sick and assisting those in need. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She would do anything for anyone. Everyone that knew her, loved her. Most of all she loved the Lord, family and friends. She was a lifetime member of the Richland Church of Christ, with a true servant’s heart.

Survivors include daughters, Judy (Mike) Vaughn, of Punta Gorda, FL; Janet (Jerry) Waterford, Bedford. Three grandchildren, Lorna Waterford (Todd Spangler); David Taylor; Lori Snoddy (Greg Bartlett). Seven great-grandchildren: Zayne, Jaidyn and Vance Spangler; Alexander (Portia) Snoddy; Dylan Snoddy; Coen Snoddy and Estella Bartlett. Two great-great-grandchildren, Asher and Nova-Jade Snoddy. Two brothers, Lloyd (Ramona) Smith; Richard (Dorothy) Smith; sister, Shirley (Smith) Woods; sister-in-law, Marky Smith.
