Eldon served his country in the U.S. army during World War II in the Philippines.
He was a distinguished disabled Veteran. He has 2 Purple Hearts.
After his release from the Army, Eldon went to Indianapolis. Where he worked at Chevrolet Motors and also drove a Taxi.
That’s where he met his wife. They moved to Bloomington in 1954 and purchased and operated a store in New Unionville, IN. They also hauled, water, stone, and coal.
Eldon and Eunice were known for their huge gardens where they shared their harvest with family and friends, often leaving a bag of goodies for friends on their porches. In 1963, they built a new building and it was the first full size grocery store in Unionville. They employed a lot of the local kids for their first times job. They made many early morning trips to Indianapolis to purchase the best produce they could find to sell in the store. As only the best would do for Eldon. He loved serving his community. He was always giving kids a sucker or treats when they came in the store.
He taught his kids and grandkids a great work ethic, a sense of responsibility, and a love for his community. We will remember his big smile every time someone came in the store to see him.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jimmy Condra, and a granddaughter Julie Condra.
