Obituary for Elisandra "Alice" Rose Russell

Elisandra “Alice” Rose (Russo) Russell, age 98, of Nashville, Indiana passed away at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville on Sunday, May 27, 2018. She was born in Staten Island, New York to Giovianni Baptiste and Rosina (Grasso) Russo on June 7, 1919.
Alice was an independent and adventurous woman. She served her country in the Women’s Army Corps in WWII as a teletype operator. She was one of 1575 women sent to England for D-Day. She was very proud of her service. Alice was a secretary for the Federal Government in Battle Creek, Michigan after the war. After retirement, she lived in Cape Coral, Florida where she still worked at small shops. Alice was the only female in her family that learned how to drive. She was the only sibling to graduate high school. She was of Catholic faith.
Alice is survived by her children, Brandy Mervosh (Michael) and John Russell (Zane Balks-Russell), grandchildren, Angela Carrithers (Tyler), Anneke Rarey, Audra Gallagher (Joe), Michelle O’Dell (Ron) Nathan Russell (Amber), and Nick Russell, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, who were Italian immigrants, and eight siblings.
Visitation for Alice will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 P.M. at The Funeral Chapel, with entombment to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Alice’s name.
