Obituary for Donald J. "Don" McCart

Donald J. "Don"  McCart
Donald "Don" Joe McCart passed away peacefully on Thursday,
5/31/2018 with his family by his side. Don was born in Mitchell, IN to
Orgal and Lavon (Johnson) McCart on 8/22/1943. A graduate of
Bedford High School, he also attended Indiana State University.
After several years in banking, Don became owner/operator of E
& M Homes, Inc. (The Home Center) for 42 years. Don was a
member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, IN,
a member of the 3658 Maintenance Battalion of the National
Guard in Bedford, IN and Executive Board Member at the
American Legion Post 53 in Bedford, IN. Don married Carolyn
(Turner) on 11/5/1966. Together they had two daughters, Michelle
McCart-Duncan ( husband Dan), Bloomington, IN and Shannon
Craig ( husband Josh), Charlotte, NC. He also had two
grandchildren, Liam and Lily Craig of Charlotte, NC. He is
survived by two sisters, Nancy Boofer and Amy Alcorn ( husband
Dennis) of Bedford, IN; father-in-law, Robert Turner of Oolitic, IN;
aunt Vickie Chitwood of Mitchell, IN; as well as several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Orgal and Lavon
McCart, his sister Anetra Kendall and brothers-in-law, Don
Kendall of Mitchell, IN and Jerry Boofer, of Bedford, IN.
Don loved all sports, especially baseball, basketball, and golf. He
was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with friends and family.
An excellent baseball player, Don was drafted into the Pittsburgh
Pirates organization in 1962 as well as coached both daughters
softball teams over the years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at
Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, IN. Family will accept
friends from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. An honor
guard will be present for the service as well.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard is handling arrangements.
