Obituary for James E. "Jim" Lewis, Jr.

James Edward “Jim” Lewis, Jr., age 79 of Bloomington, Indiana passed away on June 8, 2018 at the Autumn Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Bloomington. Jim was born on May 2, 1939 in Buffalo, New York to James Edward Lewis, Sr. and Estelle (Lynch) Lewis. Jim grew up with his sisters Gerry and Cathy in Buffalo, New York where he met his wife Phyllis on a retreat in high school and they were married on August 25, 1961. Jim was a member of the ROTC and upon his college graduation from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, he became a 2nd Lieutenant for the Army. He later worked for the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) as Vice-President of Human Resources. Throughout Jim’s career with ARCO he lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Portland, Oregon, Westlake Village, California and Denver, Colorado. Jim retired from ARCO in October, 1989 and resided in Westlake Village, California. After his retirement he volunteered at the District’s Attorney’s Office in Ventura, California. In 2010, Jim and Phyllis moved to Bloomington, Indiana, where he spent his final years.
Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Phyllis, golfing, talking politics, fly fishing in Montana and Colorado and, spending time with family and friends at local venues. More than anything, Jim enjoyed his family and loved them dearly!
Jim is survived by his wife, Phyllis Mary (Rapp) Lewis of Bloomington, sons, James Patrick Lewis (Kristie) of Bloomington, and Gregory John Lewis (Krista) of San Diego, California, grandchildren, Courtney Rae Lewis, Nathan James Lewis and Hannah Sue Lewis, all of Bloomington, great-grandchildren, Makaia and Zaylen both of Bloomington and sister Catherine Jewell of San Diego, California. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Estelle Lewis and sister, Geraldine Pratt.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 in the mausoleum at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 310 N. Johnson Avenue, Bloomington, Indiana.
