Obituary for Rodney Dale "Rod" Harris

Rodney Dale "Rod" Harris, 68, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his home surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born, July 17, 1949 in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Russell and Dorothy (Johnson) Harris.
Rod was a Sawyer for Bybee Stone for 28 years and he delivered auto parts at Auto Value for two years. Rod was a member of AMVETS Post #2000, American Legion Post #18, Moose Lodge #1081, and he was a Golden Eagle at Eagles Lodge #1085.
A fun loving father, grandfather, and brother, Rod enjoyed his dirt track racing, a family tradition for over 50 years. One of his greatest joys was winning his first Bloomington Speedway Track Championship as UMP Modified car owner in 2017.
Surviving family members include son, Roddy Harris, daughters, Angie Batchelor (Trint), Amanda Koontz, and Janel Koontz, grandchildren, Levi Potter, Jake Harper (Selena), Kenlynn Smith, and Thatcher Koontz, siblings, Danny "Joker" Harris, Larry "Poodle" Harris, Brenda Waltz-Kerr, Linda Hollers (Jeff) all of Bloomington and Ron Axsom (Linda) of Franklin, and several nieces, and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by siblings, Thelma Jean Crouch, Bill Harris, Clyde Harris, Buck Harris, Carolyn Holland, Jerry Harris, Russell Harris, infant Mary Harris, and Lester "Bub" Axsom.
Visitation will be 3-8pm Monday, June 25, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday at The Funeral Chapel with Reverend Justin Rains officiating. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery.
