Jean Hill White Campaigne, 97, died at her home in Meadowood Retirement Community July 17, 2018. She was born July 26, 1920 in Ayrshire, Scotland and immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1927.
Jean was a wife, mother and active civic participant from the time she moved to Bloomington in 1943. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority, Bloomington Local Council of Women in which she served as president, and P.E.O. She never revealed what P.E.O. stands for beyond, “Please Eat Out!”
Her enduring commitment was to the Bloomington Hospital and hospital Auxiliary. She served from 1961 to 2003 as an Auxiliary volunteer, devoting more than 3,500 hours of service; as a member of the Hospital Board of Directors, and as first president of the Southern Indiana Women’s Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Dr. David (Barbara) Campaigne (St. Augustine, FL), daughter, Claudia (Tony) Burrus (Ft. Wayne, IN); four grandchildren, Barbara Koch, Ronald (Renee) Burkirk II, Gillian (Chris) Campaigne-Overly and Christian Campaigne, as well as four great-grandchildren and the family’s devoted friend and caregiver, Elizabeth Pearson.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, of 72 years, Dr. Ernest E. Campaigne and a daughter, Dr. Barbara Naomi Campaigne Boot.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are being handed by The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana 47401. There will be no services; a family memorial will be planned at a later date.
Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Bloomington Hospital Auxilary at P.O. Box 1149, Bloomington, IN 47402.
