Obituary for Marion E. Young

Marion E. Young
Marion E. Young, 87, of Unionville passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born, May 24, 1929 in Monroe County, he was the youngest child Oscar and Gertha (Brock) Young.
Marion grew up on the family farm east of Bloomington in the beautiful Brummetts Creek Valley during the great depression. There he learned to swim and fish in the creek that run through the they’re farm, and squirrel hunt the surrounding hill sides. He also learned to work at an early age helping Oscar with the crops and livestock and Gertha with her large flock of White Rock chickens.
Marion was a 1947 graduate of Unionville where he played basketball and baseball.
He was the owner/operator of Marion Young Excavating and he was a co-owner of Rural Water Maintenance.
Marion was instrumental in founding and serving as a board member for B&B Water Corporation and Stone Belt. He was also a founding member of Sherwood Oaks Christian church where he served as a longtime Deacon.
He was a former board member and past President of the Monroe County Community School Corporation and he was a 4-H Club Leader for many years.
Marion was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved his dogs, who enjoyed farming, gardening, raising produce, especially sweet corn and tomatoes, which he gave to everyone he knew. He also loved fishing with friends and grandchildren in his pond on the farm. Marion’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, telling stories from his childhood. He took great pride in hosting an annual Young Family picnic on the 4th of July for over 35 years at his home.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary E. (Wampler) Young, two sons, Steven L. Young (Connie) of Bowling Green, and Gregory R. Young (Karen) of Unionville, one daughter, Julie A. Fairfield (Eric) of Keller, TX; seven grandsons, Andrew Young of Bowling Green, Kyle Young (Britney), Nathan Young (Cayla) all of Cory, Jacob Young (Jerusha) of Unionville, Joshua Young (Jana) of Bloomington, Jackson Fairfield and Eli Fairfield both of Keller, TX; ten great-grandchildren, Eliza, Eva, Eldon, Brinley, Oliver, Owen, Ruby, Emmitt, Sawyer, and Mabel Young.
