Obituary for
Frederick I. Oeding
Frederick Irvin Oeding of Bloomington In., passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Autumn Hills Alzheimer’s Center in Bloomington, In. He was born on October 19, 1938 in Huntingburg, In. to Gerhard Oeding and Edna (Schum) Oeding.
He graduated from Huntingburg High School, Class of 1958. He then served 3 years in the Navy Air Force flying as radar man on the West Coast Dew Line.
Fred worked in Quality Control for over 25 years at RCA until they closed and then worked for the last 2 years at G.E. in Bloomington retiring in 2000.
He enjoyed playing softball for many years for St. John’s Church League and was elected into Bloomington’s Softball Hall of Fame in 1993.
He also enjoyed playing golf for several years after retirement with his many friends at Cascades Golf Course. He enjoyed bragging about getting a “Hole in One” on the 11 th hole at Rolling Meadows Golf Course.
Survivors include his wife Sheila (Tessier) Oeding of 30 years. He is also survived by his sons Brian (Karen) Oeding, Brett (Allison) Oeding, daughters Heidi (Jeff) Leisz, Catherine Entzian, and Pamela Easton, and grandchildren Grant Leisz, Chase & Carlie Easton, Alexandra Entzian, and Jacob, Grace & Blaise Oeding. Fred is also survived by his stepdaughters Roxann (Mark) Finch and Melody Dennis; stepgrandsons, Steven, Bradley, and J.T. Finch, and stepgranddaughters, Jessica and Samantha Dennis and Jasmine Smithson. He also is survived by 4 step great¬grand children, Tayler and Parker Finch and Zailee Jo and Ty Cole Smithson. Fred is also survived by two sisters, Margie Kyle of Green Forest, Ark. and Mary Jean Hagan of Sellersburg, In. He is also survived by the mother of his children Peggy Oeding of Jasper, In.
Per Fred’s request there will be no visitation, but in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Parkinson Foundation. (Parkinson.org).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, IN. at 10:00 a.m. on July 8th with Father Daniel Mahan officiating followed by a funeral luncheon in the church’s rec center.
Private family interment will take place at a later date at Valhalla Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
