Obituary for Phillip Ellington

Phillip Ellington, 73, of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday July 28, 2016 at Garden Villa surrounded by his family. Phillip was born February 3, 1943 in Rowan County, Kentucky and was the son of the late Harlan and Ruby (Hicks) Ellington.
Phillip cut timber and worked the farm as a young man with his parents and grandparents and later became a Professional Truck Driver working for a Nuclear Engineering Company hauling radiation. He moved to Bloomington where he owned with his brother the Kirkwood Bar (now Irish Lion) and Little Red Caboose Restaurant, for over 25 years he was also the owner of Phil’s Transfer Car Sales in Bloomington. He was an avid Cowboy, horseback rider and storyteller. He was a baptized member of the West 11th Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his son Jeff Ellington (Hope) of Bloomington and daughter Kathy Swango (Kent), also of Bloomington. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brandon Panganiban, Lindsey Ellington, Lincoln Ellington, and Eric Campbell, best friend Charlene Hamm (most of the time) 37 years, Cheyenne McGlaun Beloved Philly Daddy, sisters, Paulette Conn and Eva Mae Weaver, ex-wife and his children’s mother Nola Jefferson Josleyn and her daughter Jackie Middleton.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, son Nick Ellington, daughter LaDonna Ellington, brothers, Clint Ellington, John Ivan Ellington, Robert Ellington, and Donald Ellington, sisters, Beulah Whitt and Dorothy Eggers .
Visitation for Phillip will be Saturday July 30, 2016 from 9-10:30 am at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Pastor Joe Hamm will officate a private family burial. Contributions in Phillip’s memory may be directed to The Community Kitchen of Monroe County 1515 S. Rogers Street, Bloomington, IN 47403.
