Obituary for
Don B Oard
Don Barton Oard, age 74, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away at IU Health Bloomington Hospital on November 12, 2016. He was born in Terre Haute on October 15, 1942, the son of William Ernest and Imilda (VanBuren) Oard.
I.A.T.S.E. Local 618 put Don to work at the IU Auditorium as a head electrician for 25 years. Don was also a City of Bloomington Firefighter, where he retired from the fire department as Battalion Chief after 22 years. Don greatly enjoyed cooking, Men’s and Women’s IU Basketball, the outdoors, which involved camping, fishing, astronomy, storms, and birds. Most of all, Don loved his grandchildren and went to all of their sporting events growing up. He spoiled them as much as he could.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Oard of Bloomington, his children, John Michael Oard of Bloomington and Bryan Matthew Oard (Kati) of Ellettsville, grandchildren, Jennifer Renee Oard of Ellettsville, Taylre Danielle Oard of Ellettsville, Mitchell Bryan Oard (Kelsey) of Bloomington, Keaton Matthew Oard of Bloomington, Mason Don Oard of Ellettsville, great-grandchildren, Alexis Marie Roe, Layla Danielle Roe, Lacie Renee Roe, all of Florida, and Abigale Scarlett Carter of Ellettsville, other extended family that was near and dear to Don, Shirley and Larry (Butch) Smith, Sandy and Kirk King (Kayla and Jackson King), Jimmy and Cathie Smitha (Caitlin), Greg Glover (Sierra), all of Las Vegas, and Richard (Gloria) Glover of Indianapolis.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Milda Oard.
Calling will be at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana 47401, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 on Friday, November 18, 2016.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Salvation Army, 111 N. Rogers St, Bloomington, Indiana 47404, in Don's name.
A Memorial Service for Don will be at The Funeral Chapel at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 18, 2016.
