Obituary for Claudia Jean (Waterford) Greene (Gold Star Mother)

Claudia Jean Waterford Green was born on Rockport Road, Monroe County Indiana. Claudia was born the oldest daughter of 10 children to Claude Earl Waterford and Lorene (Alexander) Waterford.

At age 17 months Claudia welcomed her sister Ruth to the family Claudia’s dad had been bringing in rabbits to her when Ruth was born, Claudia nick named Ruth Bunny- Bun which Ruth went by until she was six or seven years old. Claudia was very cute child, dark skin curly hair and always had a little dog under her arm.

In 1946 Claudia started working at RCA until she retired from RCA in 1991.

Claudia was married to Wayne Cummings and 1947, while Wayne was in the Navy their travels took them to places such as Puerto Rico. In 1948 son Roger Wayne Cummings was born.

In 1955 Claudia married Robert E. Greene(Bob). Bob was a wonderful husband, father to Roger and uncle to all the nieces and nephews, Brother in law and friend to everyone. They loved all the nieces and nephews, it was always great fun to visit their house, spend the night and make pizzas and other great food. Many of us remember going on vacation to numerous places with them, one location that comes to mind is Lake Shafer Indiana Beach. Claudia always enjoyed roller skating, often taking nieces and nephews to the skating rink.

Claudia was preceded in death by both her parents Claude Earl Waterford and Lorene (Alexander) her beloved son Roger Wayne Cummings, PFC United States Marine Corps (awarded Navy Cross) killed in action in Vietnam April 20, 1969. With the difference in time zones Claudia was notified of her sons death on her 40th birthday, Husband, Robert E. Greene March 8, 1980. Claudia was also preceded in death by three brothers Joseph D. Waterford October 19, 1997, Donald Earl Waterford September 5, 2005, Jack Lee Waterford September 13, 2005 and preceded in death by two sisters: Florence Estella Jacobs January 14, 2016 and Betty Sue Sawyer July 27, 2017, and niece Beth Ann Waterford Daniel passed away on December 20, 2017.

Claudia is survived by three sisters Ruth Floyd, Shirley Steven’s (Minford), Doris Wilson, and one brother: Jerry Alexander Waterford (Janet), Deanna Waterford, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Claudia did a lot to help others in need and those who are less fortunate in and around Bloomington and the surrounding counties. Claudia was a member of Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Claudia was a Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #18, Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary post #604, Life Member AMVVETS Auxiliary post# 2000, also a Life Member Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary Post # 654.


Visitation will be on Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM with Rosary Service from 7:30-8:00 PM.,at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. 3rd St., Bloomington, IN and on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at the church.

Services will be Thursday, December 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church 4607 West State Rd. 46, Bloomington, Indiana with Father Daniel J. Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at CloverHill Cemetery.
