Richard (Ted) Owings, 82 passed away January 5, 2018 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Richard was born on January 27, 1935, in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Frank and Opal (Eads) Owings.
He was a United States Army Veteran. Richard retired from RCA/Thompson after 31 years of service. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and going to auctions. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling and helping others. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by three daughters, Tina Smith (Brian) of Bloomington, Yvonne Reed (Steve) of Springville, Denise Kindred of Bedford, one son, Steve Owings of Bedford, brother Roger Owings of Bloomington, and sister Gwendolyn Prince missing since June 1993. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Rodney Smith (Andrea) of Springville, Joshua Smith (Shanna) of Ellettsville, Amanda Curren (JR) of Springville, Ashlee Brooks (Jeremy) of Heltonville, Alisha Marshall (Jeremy) of Bedford, Stephanie Saunders (Brandon) of Bloomington, Aaron Jones (Mindy) of Springville, Cortney Smith of Bloomington, Holly East (Stephen) of Bedford, 25 great grandchildren, Joseph, Logan, Jase, Makaylee, Brayden, Kelsei, Drew, Mackenzie, Shaylan, Ethan, Alexis, Emma, Liam, Reise, Walker, Shayln, Paislee, Gavin, Jaxson, Austin, Adalyn, Eloise, Abigal, Gabriel, and Ethan.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Peggy Hearth, Freida Owings, brother Robert Owings and two grandsons, Jeremy Jones and Matthew Jones.
Services for Richard will be 11:00 am Wednesday January 10, 2018 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Pastor Harold Godsey will officiate the service and burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Visitation for Richard will be Tuesday January 9, 2018 from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
