Obituary for Anna Jane Hennessy

Anna Jane Hennessy passed away on April 24th, 2018. Born Armistice day in 1935, she was a 1953 graduate of Bloomington High School and lifelong resident of Bloomington. Anna served Indiana University for over 30 years as a Senior Administrative Assistant. An ardent fan of Indiana University Athletics, for many years she attended Indiana University football games and cheered for IU basketball. Her interest were wide-ranging—from American history to forensics. She had the opportunity to travel to Europe to see other cultures and to see the US from coast to coast. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Anna leaves a legacy of the value of hard work, of quiet but unrelenting persistence in the face of great obstacles and personal loss, of ingenuity and resourcefulness, of the healing power of forgiveness, and of the ability of love to endure. She was a living example of what it means to be self-reliant, to put others before self, and to never quit. With these qualities she influenced the lives of her family, her friends, and countless Indiana University students who she met in her roles at the institution.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years Thomas J. Hennessy of Massena, NY., by her father and mother Carl and Emma Jane Harris, and by her several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Todd A. Stone and Marc T. Hennessy, her step daughters Dawne Hennessy and Wendy Glaess and their children, her grandchildren Nicholas and Sarah Stone, and her great-grandchild Nikko Yap-Stone.

The family plans a Celebration of Life Ceremony with the date, time, and location to be announced. The family also wishes to offer special thanks to the doctors and nurses of IU Health Hospital Critical Care Unit and to the IU Health Hospice House team.
