Obituary for Darrel Lewis Smith

Darrel Lewis Smith, 80, of Bloomington passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, after singing “It Is Well With My Soul” at his home congregation, Evangelical Community Church. Born, August 10, 1938, in Yuba City, CA; he was the son of Elmer and Winona (Thompson) Smith. Darrel played accordion and French horn, and he sang in church choirs for more than 60 years. His favorite song was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” He received his teaching license from Westmont College, and then he taught for Wheatland School District, including Beale Air Force Base, for over 30 years. Darrel is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Pea Smith; their children, Janell, Eric, and Darrin Smith; their niece, Amy Grourke Norris; and their grandchildren. Visitation will be at 1:00pm, followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 1st, at Evangelical Community Church, 503 S. High St. Bloomington, IN 47401 with Pastor's Bob Whitaker, John Mangrum, and Dan Waugh officiating. Burial will follow at Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer.
