Obituary for Ivan L. Burch

Ivan L. Burch, 91, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Ivan was born June 7, 1927, in Greene County, Indiana, and was the son of the late Rossie and Wanda (Sullivan) Burch. He was a 1944 graduate of Solsberry High School and was a Homebuilder in the Bloomington area for many years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany from 1945-1947 as a message center clerk.
Ivan was a man of great character, respected and loved by all. He was the ultimate gentleman, very strong but gentle. He was devoted to his family, a true family man. He took great pride in his work and earned the highest reputation, including building over 150 homes in Monroe County.

Ivan enjoyed life to the fullest, with a sense of adventure. He traveled with his family across the U.S. and was especially fond of the West and the National Parks. His interests included horse pulling and horseback riding, boating and fishing. He was inquisitive, a voracious reader, and a true nature enthusiast. He always preferred to be active and outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, the love of his life, Phyllis (Freeman) Burch; three daughters: Kathy Smith, Janet Burch, and Cynthia Burch Harms; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Smith, Matthew Smith, Michael Smith, Aimee Smith, Ryan Harms, Adam Harms, Barron Harms, and Evan Harms; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jessie Rush; and brother, Carl Burch.
