Obituary for Roscoe Raines

It is with sadness that the family of Roscoe Raines of Bloomington, Indiana announces that he passed away suddenly on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at the age of 76 years. Roscoe was born on February 19th, 1942 in Hidalgo, Kentucky. He moved to New Castle, Indiana at the age of 10 and moved to Bloomington, Indiana at the age of 20 in 1962 to work construction. Otis Elevator hired Roscoe in 1965 and he retired from Otis Elevator after a 35-year career. Roscoe was a longtime member of Little Cincinnati Christian Church in Eastern Green County, served on the Eastern Green County School board and was a Center Township Trustee in Green County for eight years.

Roscoe was born to his late father Hubert Raines who passed away in 1968 and is survived by his mother Abbie Mary Raines of New Castle. Roscoe had a sister Norma Jean Jolly that passed away in 1995, and is survived by his brothers Bob Raines of New Castle and Otto Raines and spouse Judy of Linton. He is survived by his wife Elaine Raines of Bloomington and his four children, Randy Raines and spouse Jenny (Springville), Misty Coster and spouse Ben (Fishers), Doug Raines and spouse Jacque (Bedford) and Daniel Raines (Nashville). He was also survived by his longtime friend Tammy Leonard. Roscoe had 8 grandchildren, Chris Raines, Lisa Raines, Justin Raines, Chelsey Raines, Mia Reed, Mariah Ditslear, Bennett Coster, Karington Raines and two step-grandchildren Bryce Terrell and Brittany Bolter. He had two great-grandchildren Bekah Raines and Easton Reed and four step great-grand children Colin, Trenton, Cameron and Ryan.

Family and friends will gather for a viewing at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard in Bloomington on Tuesday, December 18th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and a short viewing on Wednesday, December 19th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am at the Funeral Chapel with no graveside service. John Robertson from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church West will officiate the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity.
