Obituary for Charles Earl "Charlie" Adkins

Charles Earl “Charlie” Adkins, age 91, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington on Friday, January 4, 2019. Charlie was born in Greenfield, Indiana on December 14, 1927 to Benjamin Harrison and Elsie Dean (Long) Adkins.
Charlie graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree and was a registered pharmacist, working much of his professional career at Kirkwood Pharmacy. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with family and friends. He also spent many enjoyable hours teaching his kids and grandkids about astronomy, the nature of Karstopography in Indiana, and geology. Charlie enjoyed carpentry, painting, Indiana University sports, and laughing. Charlie studied the Bible his entire life and was a faithful servant. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
Charlie is survived by his children, Kenneth Adkins (Brenda) of Noblesville, Keith Adkins (Yvonne) of Indianapolis, Karen Adkins-Fleener (Bud) of Bloomington, and Kelli Ellis (Richard) of Indianapolis, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene (Graves) Adkins, parents, and siblings, Edith, Ralph, Marvin, Melvin, and Roy.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday at The Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Reverend Steve Baker will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bloomington Hospice House in Charlie’s name.
