Our memories of Charlie go back to when we first attended services at Fairview United Methodist Church. He always smiled and greeted us warmly and was one of the members who encouraged us to join the congregations. I cannot think of Charlie without remembering the fellowship meals we shared in the church. We will honor our memories of his kind words and good times at Fairview UM Church. David and Carol Walter

Charlie was my father in law. He respected boundaries and never meddled in our lives. The first time I actually spent time with him was in Cincinnati Ohio at the apartment of his youngest daughter Kelli and her husband Richard. We shared the love of the Three Stooges, agreed that Curly was the true star of the trio and he had the better rendition of the Curly Shuffle. He loved his family and his fierce loyalty to God impacted me greatly. He was an incredibly hard worker and honest to the letter of the law. He never drove in the passing lane and his exactness in life served him well as a chemist and pharmacist. I will miss his wit and even his puns. While traveling in Greece with my husband and me, Charlie took a fall and ripped his pants. After he dusted himself off and got on the bus, I told him he had a hole in his jeans. Without missing a beat, he said, “You rip-a-dees pants and I’ll have to sew them.” (Euripides) The photo below was at a museum we went to last summer. I joked with him and asked him if the covered wagon was his first vehicle. Again, he quipped, “No, actually my first vehicle was a chariot”! God bless you Charlie. My love, Yvonne

I send you all of you my thoughts and sympathy on the death of Charlie. It is a true delight to me that I got to meet Charlie at the Bell Trace Writing Group which I was leading, even though it was only for a short time. The pieces that he wrote, the stories that he told and the quiet thoughtful way that he read out loud the poem or the piece of prose that we were studying all were very special. And what a lovely smile and a good sense of humor. I miss him a great deal. We all do.
