He was born January 24, 1932 in Honeycreek, Indiana to Clayton Riggs and Bertha Fletcher Riggs. Dick graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Business. During his sophomore year, he met beautiful young freshman, Marguerite "Maggie" Hyfield. She became the love of his life and they were married in 1956. They celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Years later, he worked for Stackpole Carbon as a Sales Engineer, covering 11 states. Dick and Maggie lived and raised their two children in Bloomington.
Dick was an avid fisherman and loved boating. most family vacations were on lakes from Michigan to Florida. Many times he would get home from work, quickly change his clothes, head out to the garage to take the boat to Lake Monroe, Lake Lemon, or Yellowwood. He won several bass tournaments over the years and he had several stories about the "one that got away".
He also loved working with wood, spending many hours making heirlooms for his family. The family would cherish these items for generations including a cradle to be used for his first great-granddaughter in June 2019.
Dick had a great group of friends. Back in the day, they met at Ladyman's for breakfast and they currently meet at Steak and Shake. He loved going to breakfast with the men and sharing stories and lies. They shared lots of laughter over a span of 40 years.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie (Hyfield) Riggs, and loving children, daughter, Rachael Riggs Dennis and grandson, Taylor Dennis (Colleen) of St. Petersburg, FL; and son, Jeffrey Riggs (Susan) and granddaughter, Rebecca Riggs of Bloomfield, IN.
