Betty May Newland, 96, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday February 8, 2019 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Betty was born May 25, 1922 in North Manchester, IN and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Audrey (Jordan) Reiff.
Betty was a Homemaker and was a longtime member of Woodhaven Christian Church where she had served as the Financial Secretary and was very active at the church until her health no longer allowed her to be. She enjoyed knitting, and was a volunteer with the Red Cross. She loved all sports and especially enjoyed Indiana University sports. After Betty's husband John passed away she enjoyed traveling with the groups from Monroe County State Bank to many different locations.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ray Dosh of Marion, Indiana.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Garber who was shot down and killed in World War II; her second husband John S. Newland who passed away in 1989, her parents; brother, Jack Reiff; and half sister, Maxine Miller.
Visitation for Betty will be on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 6-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time.
Services will be on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.

Cindy - I am sorry to see the passing of your Mom. My memories of her are mostly from at your house before & after school. She was always very nice. I also remember sitting sometimes waiting for her to finish braiding your hair. Much love sent you and your husband's way.

The Newland Reunion had no lack of humor or encouraging words as long as John and Betty were in the group. After John left us Aunt Betty was faithful, not only to attend and lead in the planning of our get together, but could be counted on to be the one with the biggest smile when greeting you. She was truly interested in your goings on, not just at the reunion but all year long through cards, letters and phone calls. God bless you, Ray and Cindy, for all you did in helping her to stay a vital part of our family for all these years. We pray for comfort and peace as you reflect on a life that was beautifully lived. Love you Betty, I miss your smile in the mornings and your attempt to make baskets during the IU games. I will not watch a game without thinking about you. We shared a lot of laughs, thank you and your family. Your all the best!!!

We purchased our house right next to Betty and John back in 1985. They were the kind of neighbors that everyone would want to have and be lucky to get. Down to earth, sincere, witty and just a pleasure to talk to. It was indeed a great pleasure to live next to Betty and get to know her throughout all those years. She was a wonderful lady with a wonderful attitude which made her a pleasure to visit with. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
