Obituary for Imogene Embry

On Friday, May 31, 2019, Imogene Caroline (Paul) Embry, age 94 passed away at Aspen Trace Senior Living Community in Greenwood. She was a long time Bloomington resident.

Imogene was born in Indianapolis on June 29, 1924 to Clarence Carlton Paul and Malinda Estella (Hudson) Paul. Imogene married William H. “Bill” Embry of Jeffersonville in April 1948 and together they had one son, Charles D. “Chuck” Embry born in February 1960.

Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Virginia (Paul) Keown, and her son who left behind his wife and baby daughter. Many marveled at her faith during the few years she lost these closest to her. Imogene’s faith was her source of strength as she moved on caring for others impacted by the losses, never questioning God’s plan. Imogene later welcomed her daughter-in-law’s new husband, his daughters and new granddaughter with a heart big enough to become “Grandma” to them all. Without doubt, she has loved others dearly and is herself dearly loved.

Imogene’s survivors include a brother in law, two nieces, a nephew, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Imogene was an active member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and the Living Stones Sunday school class. She served on the funeral dinner and kitchen ministries and took part in many other activities there. Over the years, she worked for Blocks, Lazarus, Ayres and Macy’s. Imogene was an avid sports fan who loved IU basketball, Cubs baseball, Indy and NASCAR racing most.

This is what Imogene knew…
Life is eternal and love is immortal
and death is a gateway,
an entrance and portal
into a life that no man can envision,
for God has a greater perspective and vision.
