ELLETTSVILLE - Mark Taylor, 66, of Ellettsville, passed away at home on Thursday, July 4, 2019, with his beloved wife, Sandi, at his side.
Born April 19, 1953 in Wheeling, West Virginia, Mark was the son of Charles and Bertha (Donaghy) Taylor. He was a 1971 graduate of Martins Ferry (Ohio) High School, and received his Bachelor’s of Science degree, in Education, from Ohio University in 1977. Mark married Sandra Bean Taylor on April 22, 1989 in Columbus, Indiana.
Mark worked in the insurance industry for most of his career. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1081, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 604, and the American Legion Post 18. He valued his participation in these service organizations, the opportunity to make a difference, and the many friendships he made there. Mark loved everything about cars, from collecting and building models when he was young, to restoring classic cars as an adult. One of Mark’s favorite pastimes was attending or watching any kind of auto racing, an interest shared by many family members and friends and a source of great memories for all.
Mark is survived by his wife, Sandi Bean Taylor; daughter, Shayna Wolf, and grandson Dylan Housel, of Ellettsville; mother, Bertha Taylor, of Columbus, OH; brother, Michael (Kathy) Taylor, of Harrison Township, MI; brother Mitchell (Tracee) Taylor, of Bethesda, OH; sister Melodie (Dick) Rochelle, of Montpelier, VA; sister, Marcie (Steve) Naber of Columbus, OH; mother-in-law, Mabel Fox, and brother-in-law Chuck (Julie) Fox, of Columbus, IN. Mark was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of Mark’s life will take place beginning at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1081, 840 South Cory Lane, Bloomington, 47403. To honor Mark, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to support the service activities of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1081, at the above address; VFW Post 604, 2404 W Industrial Pk Dr, Bloomington, 47404; or the American Legion Post 18 at 1800 W 3rd St, Bloomington, 47404.

I first met “Mr. Taylor” at Martins Ferry High School in 1974. He was a really cool teacher whom I respected and adored. My husband and I currently live in the house in which Mark lived as a young boy. Dave and I extend our deepest sympathy to his family including his siblings Mitch, Marcie, Melody and Mike and to their loving mom, Bertha. Mark will certainly be missed! Rest In Peace, Mark.
