Obituary for Gary Lee Helton

Gary Lee Helton, 66, of Solsberry passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born, May 22 1953 in Detroit, MI; he was the son of Earl J. Helton Sr. and Donna Rae (Richardson) Kahrer.
Gary was formerly an officer at the Indiana Department of Corrections for Women in Indianapolis, and a Juvenile Corrections Officer in Spencer as well as a security officer for IUPD.. He was the Town Marshall of Gosport. He was a foreman at RCA/Thompson where he served as a shop steward of the IBEW Union, he was also an inspector for the Greene County Elections. \His most recent employment was in the tool department at Menards, Bloomington.
Gary was an avid hunter and an active gunsmith. He taught archery to adults and children, proceeding with several awards for his work in archery and hunting skills.
Gary was a devoted, husband, father, uncle, brother and son. Gary wore several hats. There was never a dull moment with Gary around. The jokes, the laughter, the guidance. His willing to help anyone. He never met a stranger. He is an example of a fine individual. Definitely loved by many. He will be greatly missed, but will never be forgotten.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Stephanie (Goodman) Helton, his son Eric Helton and wife Patti of Charlotte, MI; Kyle (Lanie) and Kendall Britton of Solsberry. His daughter, Courtney Hettle of Bloomington. Madison Britton of Solsberry. Grandsons, Jordan Helton, Tanner Helton and wife Carol. Granddaughter Madison Lee Hettle. Mother, Donna Rae (Richardson) Kahrer and husband Roy of Indianapolis, brothers, Earl J. Helton Jr. and wife Julie of Linton, Anthony "Tony" Helton and wife Marva of Indianapolis, and Sebastian "Randy" Helton and wife Helen of Bloomington. Niece, Ellen Ann Robinson and husband Jay, Anthony Helton Jr., Vincent Helton and wife Jamie, Nicholas Helton and wife Regina, Michael Helton and lifelong best friends Gary Vanpelt and Kent Benson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl James Helton Sr. , brother, David Helton, niece, Kimberly Sue Helton., infant brother, Michael Helton and step-father, Charles Fleener,
Visitation will be 1-3pm Friday, August 30, 2019 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Friday at The Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeff Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Funeral Chapel.
