Jerry “Jug” Max Ridge, 83 of Bloomington passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, September 30, 2019. He was born October 26, 1935 in Bloomington, IN and was the son of the late Jack Ridge and Doshia (Andis) Ridge. Jerry graduated from Bloomington High School in 1956 where he was a star football player and wrestler. After graduating high school, he married the late, Georgia (Whaley) Ridge. They were married on January 5, 1957 and were married for 50 years prior to her death. Jerry was a devoted Captain of the Bloomington Fire Department for 36 years and following retirement worked for the Monroe County Highway Department. Jerry was an avid golfer, loved spending time with his family and life-long friends and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 18.
Jerry is survived by his children Lynne (Jack) Frye, Lori (Mike) Fulton, David Ridge, grandchildren Kristi Wasson, Malissa Ridge (Fiancé – Aaron Walters), James Ridge (Fiancé – Kate Ooley), Bradley “BJ” Frye, Katie Fulton, Cassie (Mike) Oliver, Carly Fulton, great-grandchildren Bailey and Adam Wasson, Olivia Ridge, special friend Virginia Stiffler and sister Bonnie Creech all of Bloomington, IN. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters Wanda Chandler, Doris Stephens, Bernice Ingram and brother Earl Ridge.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, October 3rd at the Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington. Funeral services will follow on Friday, October 4th at 9:00am at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
