Karl Mills, age 57, of Unionville, Indiana passed away at his residence after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, October 13, 2019. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana to John and Margaret (Mayo) Mills on April 8, 1962. When his sons were young, the song “Cats in The Cradle” was a motivator for him being involved in all aspects of his children’s lives. He was an Assistant Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts, where his sons became Eagle Scouts, as well as attending all athletic and school events. He loved his sons dearly and made them a priority in his life. Karl was the Director of Manufacturing of Socks at For Bare Feet, Inc. and master technician of computerized knitting machines, which contributed to the success of the company. He was a world renowned expert for computerized knitting technology as people would call from around the world for his expertise. Karl loved spending time on the water boating and water skiing.
Karl is survived by his sons, Greg Mills (Henry Malone) and Brian Mills (Catherine Brassell), their mother, Sheree Mills, brother, David Mills, niece Rachael Mills, step-mother, Elizabeth Mills, and half-sisters, Ann and Ellen Mills.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Karl’s life will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Riddle Point Shelter House on Lake Lemon, 7599 North Tunnel Road Unionville, Indiana.

For several decades, my company has been supplying dyed yarns to For Bare Feet. During this time, I met and worked with Karl on numerous sock programs. I always looked forward to visiting with him. Not only was it very easy to work with Karl, but his knowledge of 3 different knitting machines was incredible. No one in the entire country had more overall knitting knowledge than Karl. His efforts were critical to building For Bare Feet into a successful sock manufacturer. The amount of knitting knowledge that is now lost will never be acquired by any future American. I will truly miss our technical conversations and brain storming sessions. However, what I will miss the most is his friendly and warm demeanor and seeing that big smile underneath his mustache. We shared many hearty laughs and stories over the years. My deepest condolences to Karl's family and friends during this time of mourning. I will always have fond memories of Karl. Rest in peace my friend.

Sorry to hear of Karl's passing. This is how I remember him, from our BCHS days.

Karl was one of my favorite people from my graduating class at Brown County High School. He was always real and so genuine. When he and his family became national sock makers I was always so tickled to see their creations all over the US. What an exciting thing to see my dear classmate have a company making socks for people all over the country. I am sorry he lost his battle and am sad for his family. He will be missed by many and I know we will miss him.

I like Jon Clough, met you through HVAC and For Bare Feet. Karl you will be missed. I always enjoyed talking with you. Although our last conversation was probably 2 years ago, you were someone I thought of often. Rest in peace, friend.

I serviced the HVAC equipment for many years when FBF was in Helmsburg. Karl and I became good friends. Although a brilliant man with undying attention to detail, Karl was never self absorbed and always came across as a “regular guy.” We often swapped jokes and stories and shared life stories as friends often do. I was privileged to know Karl, had great respect for the man and will miss him.
