Obituary for Carole (Temme) Leyda
Carole Temme Leyda, 80, died peacefully Friday morning, October 11, 2019 at Garden Villa in Bloomington.
Born on July 21, 1939 in Evansville, she was the daughter of Arthur and Carrie (Stephens) Temme. After graduating from Evansville’s Reitz High School, Carole attended Indiana University and pursued a career in Dental Hygiene. She met her husband, Dick, while both attended IU Dental School in Indianapolis. After marrying in August 1959 they spent two years in Guam and one year at the Naval Training Center in Illinois while Dick served in the US Navy. They then returned to and made Bloomington their home.
Carole was actively involved in and a leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 10 years and was a member of Evangelical Community Church. She loved to garden, paint ceramics, bowl, play bridge, and was a gourmet cook. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma, a philanthropic sorority. She worked as a dental hygienist in her husband’s practice, visited school classrooms as part of Dental Health week for many years, and was employed in two different IU Oral Health Research studies: the creation of both gel and tartar control Crest toothpastes.
Carole is survived by her loving husband, W. Richard (Dick) Leyda, daughter Deborah Mizelle of Pendleton, IN, daughter Julianne Harris of Clearwater, FL, grandson Colin Marshall of Lawrence, KS, granddaughter, Hannah Harris of Clearwater, FL, granddaughter Katelyn Harris of Phoenix, AZ, great granddaughter Selah Marshall, and her brother, R. Wayne Temme of Clearwater, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lloyd Temme.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 19 at 1 pm at Evangelical Community Church, 503 South High Street, Bloomington, with visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm also at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
