Obituary for Lois G. (Deckard) Carter

Lois G. (Deckard) Carter, age 95, of Bloomington, Indiana entered eternal life to be with her Father on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. She was born on October 4, 1924 in Brown County to Raleigh and Mary “Bessie” (Woods) Deckard. Lois went to the Deckard, one room school house and then graduated from Nashville High School in 1943. She taught Sunday School at the New Paynetown Pentecostal Church for over twelve years, and was the Sunday School superintendent for over five years. Lois enjoyed quilting and crocheting, was an avid reader, and the family historian and genealogist.
Lois is survived by her son, Lowell Carter (Brenda), grandchildren, Kelly Goode and Mark Carter, son, Dale Carter (Susan), grandchildren, Jason Carter, Joshua Downes, and Jacqueline Carter, daughters, Shirley Carter (Bill Sylvester), Sharon Carter, and Rose Butcher (John), grandchild, McKenzie Goodman, daughter Mary Koontz (Jim), grandchildren, Ryan and Keith Koontz, son, Roy Carter, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years, Dean Carter, parents, grandson, Robbie Carter, and siblings, Annalee, Marion, Wayne, Martha, and Harris.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at The Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington. Rev. Cheryl Crum will officiate.
