Obituary for Helena "Ruth" (Mitchell) Todd

Helena Ruth (Mitchell) Todd received her heavenly inheritance on March 8th, 2020. For over 96 years she was a faithful daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She filled the lives around her with love and joy.
Her humble upbringing in Polk Township helped her always be content in all things. She understood the importance of her faith and the relationships in her life over material possessions. When the family farm was purchased for the construction of Lake Monroe/Allen’s Creek SRA she became a staple in the Smithville community. For as long as her health allowed, she faithfully attended and served at Smithville Christian Church.
She exemplified the Proverbs 31 women. She supported the needs of her family and built many relationships during her decades of service at Westinghouse. Ruth lovingly raised her son, Tommy Todd, and provided faithful instruction for her grandchildren.
She enjoyed hosting family and friends, always preparing wonderful food (she always made sure there was dessert). Her grandchildren remember many trips together to Deam Wilderness, Sunday drives and dinners, and fun summer sleepovers.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Lela, her husband, Wayne Todd, and her son, Tom Todd.
She is survived by her sister, Venus Abbott, brother, Jerry Mitchell, daughter-in-law, Susan, three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Deckard Powell, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, with burial to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
She has fought the good fight, she has run her race, she kept the faith. She is now enjoying her crown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
