Obituary for Clarence Edward "Ed" Sturgeon

Clarence Edward “Ed” Sturgeon, 96, of Bloomington passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center.
Born, March 19, 1924 in Monroe County, he was the son of Homer Sturgeon and Carolyn (Baker) Sturgeon-McHenry.
Ed and his parents and siblings moved to Michigan when he was 11 years old. When in high school, he met the love of his life and soul mate, Ruth Knights. They were wed and lived in Michigan until Ed proudly enlisted in the Army during WWII. He served his country in the Philippines and Tokyo, Japan, 1943-1946.
After the Army, Ed moved his family back to Indiana were he began his career as a mechanic and went on to many management positions for car repairs. At one point he owned and operated a Marathon Gas Station in Bloomington for years and retired. Then he went to work as an equipment/garage manager for several more years and retired. He then went on to work for Hubler Chevrolet delivering parts to dealerships all over Indianapolis for 10 more years. Retiring for the final time.
Ed was a motorcycle enthusiast, having logged more than 500,000 miles on his many different motorcycles. He traveled to 48 states and to Nova Scotia twice. In his earlier years he road motocross, hill climbs, poker runs and many other motorcycling events. Ed’s loving wife Ruth was always by his side on any adventure and went on everywhere with him in their 42 years of marriage. Ruth passed away in 1983. Ed was devastated, but as time heals, her persevered to find his second companion, Glenda Bowman. She brought him happiness and the adventures were continued.
He was definitely one of a kind, and he brought so much love and happiness into all lives he touched. His motto was, live everyday like it was your last and tell your spouse you love them everyday. Ed was an extraordinary family man, and once he touched your life, you never forgot him.
Survivors include his companion of 15 years, Glenda Bowman, children, Eddie Sturgeon (Connie), Nancy Robertson, and Carol Hawkins (Bill), brother, Randy McHenry, grandsons, Jerry Sturgeon (Carol), John Christopher Robertson, Kevin Robertson, Jason Hawkins (Jennifer), and Travis Hawkins, granddaughters, Tonya Clark (Jason), and Sara Hawkins, great-grandsons, Hunter Sturgeon, Will Hawkins, and Jonas Clark, great-granddaughters, Jade Sturgeon, Taylor Hawkins, Madison Hawkins, Makenzie Ray, and Jacklyn Wagner (Tony), great great-grandsons, Reece Wagner, and Clark Wagner and great great-granddaughter, June Wagner.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth (Knights) Sturgeon, step-father, John Christopher McHenry, Brother, Foster Sturgeon, sisters, Margaret Bush (Bill), Mabel Frye, and Jayne McHenry-Mitchell (Jim).
A private family graveside service will be Monday, April 20, 2020 at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard is handling arrangements.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bell Trace Health and Living Center, and their bus driver, Larry Taylor for their professionalism and loving care.
