Obituary for Joseph Edward "Joe" Allen

Joseph Edward “Joe” Allen, 59, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 at 3:45pm. Joe was born in Wichita, Kansas on June 5th, 1960. He attended Santana High School in Santee, California and graduated in 1979. Joe went on to fearlessly serve his country for 20 years in the United States Navy where he would be stationed across the world bringing vital communications to service members. After retirement, Joe was an employee with SAIC for 16 years and he spent the rest of his career as a civilian and government contractor ensuring the radio and communication lines were loud and clear aboard US Navy ships. Joe was a protector, hero and the universal strength of his family. He brought endless support, love and joy to the lives of all he encountered. Joe was hardworking, loving, charismatic and a man who would do anything for anyone. He was selfless and put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Joe is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rose Marie Allen, his daughters, Brianna La’Shaun Allen (27), Ashley Michelle Allen (22), and Diane Aurora Allen (13), his parents, Thurman (step dad) and Shirley Thomas, brothers, Darryl Wayne Allen, Troy Alexander Allen and his sister, Susan Richardson (Timothy Richardson), and his nephews, Alex Joseph Allen, Michael Hecht, and niece, Kelsey Hecht, and a plethora of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and countless number of friends in Chicago, California, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alabama.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Allen II, brother, Darren Todd Allen, his grandparents, Hillard and Alberta Moore, uncles, Alvin Moore, Hillard Moore, Kenny Moore.

A private family service will be Monday, May 11, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, in Bloomington.

Burial will be Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
