Jack Wesley Wheeler, 89, Bloomington, IN, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020. He was born January 4, 1931, in Paintsville, KY.
Jack is survived by his three children – Bruce (Karen) Wheeler, Joy (Ron) Morin, and Carolyn (Don) Dodson; a close friend, Patty Skaggs; two brothers, Richard (Patricia) Wheeler and Anthony (Barbara) Wheeler; one sister, Lois Early; nine grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Wheeler, Ryan (Kira) Wheeler, Derek (Rebekah) Wheeler, Joshua Dillaha, Justin (Tanya) Dillaha, Nicholas (Kelly) Dillaha, Sean (Samantha) Ireland, Shane (Nadia McKee) Ireland, and Lindsay Ireland; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dora and Dona Wheeler, his wife, Marilyn, brother, Charles Wheeler, sister-in-law, Mary Wheeler and a sister, Barbara Wheeler.
Jack lived in Kentucky for many of his early years. During that time, he attended University of Kentucky and then later worked for Wheeler and Williams Hardware which was owned by his father. He met and married Marilyn Stebbins. They started their married life in Ashland, KY.
In 1958, Jack and Marilyn moved to Grosse Pointe, MI. It’s there where they raised their three children. Jack worked for his father-in-law, Richard Stebbins, who owned Stiles Food Brokerage Company in Detroit, MI. Eventually, he became the owner of that company. After retirement, he moved to Bloomington, IN, where he attended Living Waters Church. His last years, he lived with his son, Bruce.
He always enjoyed playing and teaching golf, bowling, sailing, going for walks, horseback riding, tennis and music. Music was his continual enjoyment in life. One of his big accomplishments was mastering Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. He wrote many songs, some for his family, some for the radio, some just for fun. Jack put Psalm 23, a favorite of his, to music. A few other songs were written with his son, Bruce. When his children were young, they went to bed hearing Dad playing the piano, hymns as well as other songs.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 4-7 pm at The Funeral Chapel, 3000 E. 3rd St, Bloomington, IN. The service will be at Living Waters Church, 2655 N. Smith Pike, Bloomington, IN, on Friday at 12:00 noon with visitation an hour prior. Pastor Bruce Wheeler will be officiating. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery following the service. Guests are asked to wear a mask in consideration to others. Contributions may be made to Living Waters Church in memory of Jack Wheeler.

I love you Jack. Have fun in Heaven playing all those wonderful tunes on the piano and reading all those interesting books and golfing with the saints. Thanks for being in my life.
