Obituary for Barbara "Barb" Bowers
Barbara J. (Martin) Bowers of Hendricksville, passed away July 27, 2020 with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Lewey Body Dementia. She was born June 14, 1944, the oldest child of Joseph and Mary Martin.
Barb was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ and North Central Church of Christ. She was a member of the first graduating class of Eastern High School in 1961 and began her working career at Hooks Drugs. She also worked at Griffith Motor, IU Student Loan Administration and Unity Billing, but no job was more important to her than being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Bowers; daughters Kelly (Allen) Mullis of Bedford and Shelly Phipps of Spencer; granddaughters Madison and Zoe Mullis; brothers Ron (Sherry) Martin and Randy (Cheryl) Martin; sisters Nancy (David) Collier, Donna (Dan) Wooten, and Cathy Martin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and sister, grandson Allen Mullis, Jr., and niece Aimee Collier.
Visitation is from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at The Funeral Chapel and stream live through The Funeral Chapel Facebook page. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in Hendricksville.
